About cholera
Cholera is a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water. It can cause severe diarrhoea and dehydration.
The cholera vaccine is taken as a drink rather than an injection. Adults usually need two doses, and the course should be completed at least one week before you travel.
Who it is for
- Travellers to areas with cholera outbreaks or poor access to clean water
- Aid, humanitarian and healthcare workers travelling abroad
- Anyone advised to have it at a travel consultation
How it works
- Book online and complete the health pre-screen
- A pharmacist checks your travel plans and suitability
- Take your first dose, then complete the course as advised
Good to know
- Do not eat or drink for an hour before and after each dose.
- The vaccine does not replace careful food and water hygiene.
- Planning a bigger trip? Consider a full travel consultation.
