About shingles vaccine
Shingles is a painful rash caused by the chickenpox virus reactivating. It can lead to long lasting nerve pain, and the risk increases with age.
The NHS offers the vaccine to certain age groups. If you are not eligible yet, you can have it privately. The vaccine is usually given as two doses, two to six months apart.
Who it is for
- Adults who are not yet eligible for the NHS shingles vaccine (age criteria apply)
- People who have had chickenpox or shingles before
- Suitability is checked by a pharmacist
How it works
- Book online and complete the health pre-screen
- Receive your first dose
- Return for your second dose two to six months later
Good to know
- Already have a shingles rash? Get it treated under NHS Pharmacy First if you are 18 or over.
- Side effects such as a sore arm, tiredness or aches for a day or two are common.
- Check whether you are eligible on the NHS before booking.
