About otitis externa
Otitis externa is inflammation or infection of the ear canal. It can cause itching, pain, discharge and a blocked feeling, and is common after swimming or using earbuds.
After assessing your symptoms, your pharmacist can recommend treatment such as prescription ear drops where appropriate.

Good to know
- Keep the ear dry while it heals.
- Seek urgent medical advice if you have severe pain, a high temperature, swelling behind the ear or a weakened immune system.
- Middle ear infections in children may be treated free under NHS Pharmacy First.
