If you're tired of paper prescriptions getting lost or having to make a separate trip to the surgery, EPS is a small change that solves it. It takes us about thirty seconds to update.

What is EPS?

The Electronic Prescription Service is an NHS scheme that lets your GP send your prescription electronically to a pharmacy of your choice — your "nominated" pharmacy. Once we are nominated, every future prescription from your GP arrives with us automatically. You then just collect, or use our free local delivery if you're in B29 or the surrounding areas.

Why nominate Selly Pharmacy?

  • Convenient. Right on Bristol Road, opposite the University of Birmingham campus, easy to reach by bus, foot or car.
  • Reliable. Prescriptions ready when we say they will be — and a phone call if there's a delay, every time.
  • Personal. A pharmacist who knows your medication history and has time to discuss it.
  • Free local delivery. For housebound patients across B29 and surrounding areas, we deliver to your door at no charge.
  • Open six days a week. Including Saturday, so you don't have to take time off work.

How does it work?

Once you nominate us — either by filling in the form below, telling your GP receptionist directly, or asking us in store — your record is updated within minutes. From then on:

  • Your GP issues prescriptions electronically to Selly Pharmacy.
  • We dispense them and have them ready for collection (usually within 24 to 48 hours).
  • We send you a text or call when ready.
  • You collect, or we deliver if you've signed up for our free delivery in B29 or surrounding areas.

Already nominated to another pharmacy? No problem. Filling in the form below will switch your nomination to Selly Pharmacy automatically — there's nothing else you need to do.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cancel my nomination later?

Yes. You can change or cancel your EPS nomination at any time, by asking us, your GP, or any other pharmacy. There's no contract and no commitment.

What if I'm visiting from out of area?

You can still use us for one-off prescriptions without nominating. EPS nomination is most useful for people who get repeat prescriptions and want them at the same place each time.

Does it work for all medications?

EPS works for the vast majority of NHS prescriptions. A small number of items (controlled drugs in some categories, certain specialist medications) still need a paper script — we'll let you know if any of yours fall into that category.

Is there a charge?

No. EPS itself is a free NHS service. Standard NHS prescription charges (or your existing exemption) apply exactly as they did before.

Frequently asked

Common questions

Quick answers to the things people most often ask. Anything else, just call us on 0121 472 0155 or pop in.

What is EPS nomination?
EPS (Electronic Prescription Service) is the NHS system that sends your prescriptions electronically from your GP straight to a pharmacy of your choice. By nominating Selly Pharmacy, you skip the paper prescription step entirely.
How do I nominate Selly Pharmacy?
Either complete the form on this page, ask us in the shop, ask your GP receptionist, or change your nomination yourself in the NHS App.
Can I be nominated to more than one pharmacy?
No. EPS allows one nominated pharmacy at a time. If you nominate us, it replaces any previous nomination automatically.
How long does it take to switch?
Usually within a working day. Once you nominate, your next prescription from your GP will come straight to us electronically.
Can I still take a paper prescription somewhere else if I want?
Yes — you can always choose to take a one-off paper prescription elsewhere. Nomination just sets your default.
Does it work for all GPs?
EPS works for any English NHS GP. If you have a Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish prescriber, the system works differently — please ask us and we will help.
